I have a 1998 honda prelude that intermittently does not want to start (won't turn over or even attempt to start, all warning lights come on when key is turned like normal). This only appears to happen when the weather gets warmer and it is out in the sun. I have heard that Honda had an issue with a main starting relay that may be a simple fix, have you ever heard of this issue in other Preludes. Sometimes you have to pull the key out (at least that appears to work) and try several times before it will even attempt to start. The key switch and immobilzer unit has been replaced (that was Honda's answer early on when this happened) but it did not fix the issue. Can you help? Thanks.

Hi jwarrenkcc,

Yes, the PGM-FI main relay is known to fail intermittently and when this happens, it might just start and stall and then becomes very difficult to start. If you let it sit and restart later, it might start immediately.

Remove the relay and check the circuit board for cracked solders. Resoldering the points often works.
