When I first start the car it will continue to idle up and down until it warms up, then it will smooth out after it is warm. It will idle fine but when I start giving it throttle, it misses like crazy. I just put on a new fuel filter because it shut down along the road the other day and I had it towed.
Can you tell me what is causing it to idle high and low when I first start it up and what could cause it to miss so bad when it has a smooth idle.

Hi mlauer,

Surging are usually caused by the high idling speed and the throttle body, Idle adjust screw, IAC and coolant level should be checked.

The misfiring could be due to the Throttleposition sensor, spark plugs, plug cables or distributor cap and rotor.
