Yesterday I was driving down a steep hill. My brakes groaned and made a grinding sound as I was stopping. As soon as I was done going down the hilli on on relatively flat ground my brakes made no noise whatsoever. I took the car in and was told that the brakes are fine. But the grinding down was quite pronounced as I was going downhill. Any thoughts of what might be going on would be appreciated. Thanks

More than likely you are hitting the wear indicators. I suspect when you are going down hills and you are pressing on the brakes harder, you are getting into the wear indicators that are basically hard inserts in the pads that make noise as so that you know to replace the pads.

I am sure it is only a matter of time before you get the grinding all the time.

I would go ahead and remove the wheels and inspect the brakes and then change them if they are low as I suspect they are.

I am attaching the info below on how to replace the front pads. Please run through this and let us know what you find.

Thanks
