IAC Motor

1994 honda civic-ex 4 door. 140K miles. Manual Tranny The engine is the 1.6 litre I believe.

Engine was loping after it warmed up or it idled at different engine speeds each time I stopped. My mechanic cleaned out the IAC valve as he said it was crapped up with carbon and the engine should be OK now. He says that it may start to carbon-up again and if so, replace the IAC motor.

It looks like a fairly easy job to replace the IAC motor. Are there any tricks to un-installing and installing one? It is not even mentioned in my Haynes manual, which is disappointing. I'd like to do it now to prevent a problem in the future. Is this a good thing to do?

Thanks

Most cars only have 2 small bolts holding it on, just be sure to remove all the old gasket, if an IAC is NG cleaning it does no good. The little coil on it is what will cause it's demise most of the time. It's a good thing to do if the car has a problem with idleing due to a bad IAC!
