I BOUGHT A 97 HONDA CIVIC EX 2 DOOR MANUEL. WHAT I DIDNT KNOW WAS THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER SWAPPED THE ENGINE WITH A 95 D16Z6. THE MAIN PROBLEM. CUS THERE ARE A FEW. IS THAT WHEN YOU PUT THE SHIFTER IN GEAR, YOU CAN MOVE IT AROUND LIKE ITS STILL IN NUETRAL. I DONT KNOW IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS SWAPPED ALONG WITH THE ENGINE ALSO. ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO GO ABOUT GETTING THIS FIXED WITHOUT BREAKIN MY BANK? THANX.

Got an old honda civic that has a similar problem. The car has the feel that it is always in neutral but will actually go into gear and work fine. Same? Knowing the shifting it will go through the gears fine. I at first made a box to guide the shift lever but I found out later that the plastic around the shift linkage was worn. Check the shifter linkage.
