Electrical problem
2001 Honda Civic 4 cyl Manual 160000 miles

I have a 2001 honda civic. Within the last year while driving or when starting the car, all power to my dash goes out. However the emergency break light stays on. Car still runs fine. Now sometimes the problem goes away within minutes sometimes in a few days. Sometimes it comes back on when I hit a bump or goes off when I hit a bump. Like I said it happens a few times however in the last 2 weeks it happens more. One mechanic told me it was electrical and that I would have to pay straight time for them to look for the problem. Another told me it could be something to do with the ignition. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Since a bump would affect the problem, look for loose connections behind the meter clusters or fuse box.

Not the fuse.

Just check all the wire connectors underdash near the meters by pulling them apart and refitting them again to confirm that they are properly seated.

Some connectors might not have been properly fitted resulting in loose connection.

Hi.

I have been having this same issue for some time.
I live in Arizona and after getting flashed by photo enforcement we have out here, I am fed up.

THANK YOU for posting those options to try, becasue we too have checked the fuses, all is well with those.

A friend was saying it could possibly be a chip?
Though he was not certain.

My dashboard chooses when it wants to work. Sometimes it chooses to work on startup, and then like today, nothing turned on. Lately I have been very lucky that it has not stayed off for over a week.
Sometimes it will happen going 65 mph down the highway and it just flat lines, all guages drop to zero as if my car is off. Sometimes when I am idiling it will even go off and it will be sometime before it randomly turns itself back on, basically whenever. Oh and bumps can affect it to, either it makes it turn off or it turns it back on, I like when it does that, lol!

And yes, Honda Dealers want to charge an arm and a leg to just find out "what" the issue is, doesn't even include the price to fix it, or parts, Im gunna have to assume for the worst and say it is prolly a chip that costs more then the car is worth after it is all said an done. Case in point why I haven't taken it in, I am a 30 yr old college student, and I do not have the cash for that or to trade it in under cash for clunckers.

I'll report back once I find out what my problem is.

Namaste, Arin
