Hi sessions4,

It is not easy for me to diagnose what the noise is without knowing where it is coming from and the possible cause.

Does it sould like intermittent hissing noise? Maybe like a steam engine train?
Since you have irregular idling, I would suggest checking if the spark plugs are tightened securely.
It could be a leaking valve. It could be improper adjusted belting noise, or compressor clutch engaging/disengaging. The list could go on and on.

The spitting noise sounds like air being shot out of a tube. Ive noticed its coming out near the back of the engine to the left. The more I press on the gas the faster and louder it gets.

Hi sessions4,

On top left of engine there is the EGR valve and that is the only thing I can think of that might be the cause of the spitting noise. Maybe the gasket is leaking.

Verify timing belt for marks.
Make sure fuel pressure is correct.
Make sure distributor timing is correct.

Did you use stock parts?

I have a 1999 Honda Civic, 1.6L LX 4door with 92K miles. I drove to work this morning, and everything seemed to be running fine. About two hours later, I had to drive to a meeting, and my car started to idle rough. When I accelerated, the engine still ran rough with a lack of power. It seems like one of the cylinders is not firing, but not sure. I checked and re-gapped the plugs (the gap was very wide on a couple.) Didn't help, so I replaced the plugs. The engine doesn't run as rough, but the problem is still there. The wires look fine, but I checked the resistance anyway. About 2.4 kOhm for the two shorter wires and 3.0 kOhm for the two longer wires. They don't appear to be "leaking" energy, either. I also took off the distributor cap, and it appears to be OK (no crack). The distributor rotor has some wear on it. I was going to replace the rotor next (cheaper than new wires), but wanted to check if there might be something else I should also check/check instead. Or could there be a problem with the cap I don't see? Thanks for any help.

I would consider trying the old method of having the engine running and pull off a wire at a time to see which one has little effect on the running of the car. Take it from there but the wires would be my suspect.

I will be driving for a liitle while and the car starts bogging down and most of the time will die. Sometimes it will start right back up like nothing ever n
Happened and other times it will take a few minutes of turning it over to start up and it will run fine. When it is bogging down and almost dying I can push on the accelerator and sometimes it will bog a little bit and come back running like it should without dying. Some people say it is a fuel issue and others say electrical. Trying to figure this problem out and hoping you can help thanks Darren

The car is a 1999 Honda civic 2 door 1.6 liter engine. No modifications

Take it into an auto parts store and they will tell you why the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is on. I am assuming it is based on your description. You can start troubleshooting from there.

I have really bad acceleration. My car has always been pretty slow because it is a 4 cyl but it has been getting worse. I took it to be looked at and he said that it probably needs a tuneup. I got the tuneup and it is still running super slow. He told me it wasn't my cadilac converter. How would I know what it is.

You have to get a second opinion or take it back to the original shop and tell them they did not solve the original problem.

A tune-up is a great idea to begin with, however if you are still having an issue you will have to do numerous tests. Such as compression checks, MAP sensor, timing, etc.

1999 Honda Civic

I am sorry I cannot make a donation at this time due to a 1400 dollar repair bill that has not fixed the a/c. If this works I will be back to make a donation. YOU CAN COUNT ON THAT. My 99 civic wood die when the a/c was turned on and if I kept the car running the compressor wood turn on and off real fast. I took it in and they replaced the compressor, evaporater, and r/d and now the car bogs down when the a/c turns on and the compressor cycles like normal but my pressures are maxed on the low side and slightly higher than normal on the hi side. They then flushed the system but nothing has changed what do I need to do to get a/c that works without stalling the car.

Hi gil lyke,

When the low and high pressure are too high, it would result in heavy load on the compressor and that could be the reason the engine is stalling and the compressor is kicking in and out.

Possible causes for both side high pressure are :

1. Reduced air flow through condenser.

Probable causes :

a. Clogged condenser fins.
B. Condenser fan not working properly.

Remedy:

a. Clean the fins.
B. Check fan rpm.
C. Check fan direstion.

2. No bubbles in sight glass when condenser is cooled by water.

Excessive refrigerant in system.

Evacuate and recharge.

I own a Honda civic LX 1999 1.6L with 84k miles. I hear a tuk tuk sound(sounds like something is rotating in the front) when I slow down the car. But I
do not hear it when I accelerate. What could be the problem? Is the problem serious enough to be taken to a mechanic?

I just got my brake checked, even flushed and refilled the brake fluid, brake seems to work well(no noise coming from the brake). I feel something is rotating.
