Transmission problem
1998 Honda Civic 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

when I drive my car the rpm goes all the way up to 4 or 5 rpm then it jerks and changes gear, I think its the transmission but im not sure. And my gear thing is really stuck I have to put all my might in it just for it to go into drive or reverse and so forth. So im assuming its the transmission because it dosent wanna change gears and it revs all the way up to 4 or 5 rpm or sometimes higher just for it to switch gears.

Hi misskay,

The gear lever difficult to shif is most likely to be caused by the gear shift cable. GEt it checked.

If the gear shift position are not accurated due to the gear shift cable, reggting the cvable problem resolved might lcear the other problems.

Did you try to retrieve for trouble codes? You can get it done free at Autoznoe. Let me know if any trouble codes are found.

Did you check the transmission fluid level and condition?
Was any repairs carried out prior to this occurring?
