1997 Honda Civic Knocking.

1997 Honda Civic 4 cyl Automatic 158000 miles

When I'm idling, I hear a knocking in the dash above the glove box. It stops when I let go of the brake and only knocks when in drive. I'm not a car person AT ALL. Any idea to what it could be? Cost? What should I do?

Obviously, without hearing the noise, all I can do is guess. Worse case scenario would be engine bearings. I would definitely take it to someone you trust, and have them listen to it. It may just be something loose on the firewall or under the dash vibrating.
