1997 Honda Civic Hard to Move rod

Sometimes I get resistence when moving through the gears, sometimes it shifts like brand new. I don't have a problem with the transmission going through 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. Just the physical act of pushing the button in and putting the car into drive and such.

Sounds like the solenoid switch that releases the shifter when the brake is depressed might be failing or sticking.
