1996 Honda Civic KNOCKING AND IDLING

Changed the following: plugs; wires, distributor cap; fuel filter. Adjusted idle speed. Continously cutting off when placed in gear. No increase of speed or power when changing gears. Runs sluggish with loud knocking sounds while engaged in gear. What could be the problem?

Hi civicdx,

When in neutral, does the knocking noise appear?
Without engaging gears, does depressing the clutch cause any noise to appear?
Is it easy to shift the gear shift wih clutch depressed and engine started?
Does the engine rev easily when in neutral?
