Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Honda Civic Two Wheel Drive Manual 111, 00 miles

Hi guys,

Been getting a few probs with my car, it was idling incorrectly, but has now been rectified by changing the idle air control valve. Now however, whenever I brake and change gear (mainly into 2nd, say coming up to a roundabout or junction) the revs drop to 0 and the car stalls unless I quickly press the accelerator to get the revs up again.

It also 'hops' a little when accelerating, but then runs very smoothly, until that dreaded gear change! It stalled on a roundabout earlier as I had some idiot pull out in front of me and I had to change gear quickly which it didn't like!

I have no idea what could be causing this, the engine now idles when stationary at 1000 RPM (whereas before I changed the valve it was idling between just above 0 and 1500rpm!), Is 1000 RPM normal idle speed for this car?

I am thinking of taking it in to be put onto a diagnostic machine, but obviously this costs a fair bit of money so thought I would try here first! Thanks in advance!

Your car should idle at about 650 rpm. No need to go for expensive diagnostic fee. Here is to check your codes using your DTC. Paper clip works great as a jumper.

Then post the codes here. We'll determine what they are.
