1991 Honda Civic Something Wrong with the Syllinoid

Transmission problem
1991 Honda Civic 4 cyl 300000 miles

My car is acting as if it wants to stall. It slows down and doesn't want to shift gears. I had it looked at and the mechanic said it was a syllinoid (sp?) Problem. Is this true or can I fix the problem with a tune up? Also, I can't have it fixed for a couple of weeks. Is there anyway I can keep the car running fair well until then?

It does not sound like a solenoid problem at all.

Doing a tune-up might fix the problem, however throwing parts at it is not a good way to fix a car. Get it properly diagnosed.
