Honda Accord 1999 1.8 starting problems

I have a 1999 Honda Accord (hatchback) 1.8. It has about 135,000 miles on it.
My car recently has been having a problem starting, I turn the ignition key and the car will start for a second but then dies - engine cuts out and no lights.
If I retry starting a few times it will eventually be ok but this seems to happen more and more frequently.
Last service was only a couple of months ago, any help is appreciated.

The engine that was put in, was it new, used, or your old one rebuilt. What I am looking for is what of the old engine was transferred to the new engine? Which of the O2 sensors did they replace? Any more or better information would be helpful. When you say it does not start, explain using turnover as the starter engages and turns the engine over and over. Starts is when it catches and run without the starter any more. Clearify it a little. I think we can pinpoint this.

Just based on the information that I read from you, I might consider looking at the ignition switch. They were having some problems back in that general time period.
