Transmission problem
2000 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 129K miles

The automatic transmission shifts a little hard between 1st and 2nd gear. I was told it may not have Honda fluid in it and should replace the fluid with Honda tranny fluid. Is a transmission flush/fill always the best way to go? I have been told not to flush it but to drain/fill, drive it and drain/fill again. Is this a feasible alternative? Thanks

Hi marker,

If the wrong fluid is used or have not been replaced for a long time, a flush is the best way to do it.

Under normal maintenance, draining and replacement would be good enough.

Keep the mileage of change below 20,000 miles for this trans.

For year 2000 onwards, the trans are quite sensitive where fluids are concerned.

After replacement of the fluids, don't expect instant results, it might feel better but not completely cured. Drive the car around, it might take on/off running over a few days to get it working well again.

If the problem does not go away, you might have a problem with the linear solenoid or control valve body.
