Warranty problem 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 165000 miles

My son drove the car home from collage aprox. 200 miles. When he arrived the Trans fluid was almost completely gone and it smelled really burnt/nasty. I replaced the fluid, drove the care to work approx. 45 miles, no bad smell, no fluid loss. I drove it home, another 45 miles, now the fluid looks almost motor oil colored(dark brown) and smells bad, however it did not lose any fluid. Gears shift fine.

Hi jrucka01,

When trans fluids are insufficient, it would cause overheating of the clutches and this can result in the trans slipping while driving.

The trans seems to be failing and it would be a matter of time before it gives way.

Does the trans have signs of slipping while driving?
