The car I have just bought has an aftermarket cool air intake. Around the exhaust is really dark, if I rub my finger inside the exhaust it leaves a dark mark on my finger. It also smells a little bit. Do you think that it is because of the cool air intake that's absorbing more air and is burning more fuel and maybe thats why the exhaust is dark?

Hi alejandromorales,

The dark ( sooty ) exhaust indicates the engine is running rich and it should not be caused by the cold air intake.

There might be other items causing it and I would sugggest getting a tune up done.

Do you have any other running issues?
