1997 Honda Accord Engine light on, rough idle and dies

Today I started my 97 Honda Accord and the engine started to idle roughly. I proceeded to rev the engine, the check engine light came on and the car shut off after I let off the gas. I've had rough idle problems, especially in the winter but I just rev the engine and the problem goes away. The plugs and wires have been changed in the last 20k. Also, my exhaust pipe is rusted out right below the catalytic converter, could this be adding to the problem? I know I'm going to have to take it to the shop so they can figure out the error codes, but any ideas what the problem is? Thank you for any advice/help.
