My son said he was on the way home. he puts car into first gear hears some sort of grinding on right side (sounded like it was under the car floorboard) . will not move after that. is it the slave clutch. or something else trashed. i jacked the car up. can grab passenger side cv axle and turn it. it will make some sort of clunking noise, like something is broken loose . what is your verdict?

That is very unusual. Did u verifie oil level & ck. Underneath of trans. Case for poss. Hole from road debris? If oil o.K., Sounds like differential broken providing all o.K. Out at wheels. But 1st ck. The following---- If u hear noise inside trans. When spin axles, be carefull noise travels ! Be worth your while to r & r both axles remove boot bads & look inside, inner or outer joints on axle shafts may also be broken inside. QUICKEST CK.-- With flat edge pry bar pop inner axle joint - " PATIALLY " - out of trans. W/drain bucket under trans. Then remove kotter pin & 17mm nut lower ball joint. Pop ball joint from lower steer knuckle. CAREFULLY pull inner joint out of trans. W/ a squeeze method holding joints together as u pull. This will prevent joints from seperating inside which can be difficult to fix w/out take appart. Usually if pulled out by inner joint this wont happen. GOOD LUCK !
