Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 363T miles

Hi,

I'm experiencing the following problems:

1) Distributor gets hot to the touch after driving. Is this normal?

2) When the engine is cold, the engine cranks and starts. After driving, I turn off the engine, and restart, the engine just cranks but doesnt start.

3) On initial start, the engine revolution (RPM needle) goes up and down in idling. After a few minutes, it normalizes. Whats causing this?

Thanks.

Hi ev0604,

The distributor is mounted to the cylinder head and definitely it would be hot after the engine is wramed up.

Difficult starting could be due to lack of fuel pressure and I would suggest checking/replacing the main relay, which is known to give way quite often.

When the idling fluctuates during cold to warm, it could be the following.

1. Idling adjust screw set too high. Clean throttle body and readjust idling speed to rectify.
2. EACV, due to clogged coolant hoses or lack of coolant.
3. Fast idle valve not closing fully, coolant hoses clogged or lack of coolant.
4. Vacumn leakage after the throttle valve.
