Sometimes when I first start the car the RPM will stay between 2 and 3 even in neutral. I would need to step down hard on break to release it. Also my car has a hard time starting especially when its hot? We've done some home repairs nothing working please help!

Hi laolibra,

The only relationship between the brakes and high idling is a leaking brake booster pump but it shoud be going in opposite, higher rpm with brakes depressed.

If the rpm comes down to 700 rpm when the vehicle is warm and goes up when the brake pedal is depressed, then the booster is leaking.

If rpm remains high after warming up, you need to check the fast idle valve.

Other than the above, check for vacumn leakage.

I take it yours is a injection model.
