I just replaced the alternator myself in my honda. However, when I start the car, the battery light stays on. It makes me nervous that I might be running on straight battery still. What could it be?

First thing I would check is the voltage and amperage draw of the alternator. You may have a defective alternator out of the box.

If that is fine, you will have to start tracing the circuit for any possible opens or possibly a faulty ECM.

The battery reads that it is 12volts showing that its not charging. So I can assume that its coming from some mess up from the alternator. There is a plug and a spot where a postive wire is screwed on. Where would I check the alternator for issues?

Make sure that power wire has no resistance and is providing a good solid contact.

You may just have a defective alternator on your hands.
