I have a 1988 honda Accord DX 5 speed, with carburetor. Had mechanic check several times but seems not to act up when he looks at it. He replaced plugs, wires and distributor cap and button year ago, but still acted up after that. It seems to run great in warm weather, but now that it is getting colder, doesn't want to stay running, untill car warms up, very rough idle or stalls out. Also has a very bad gasoline smell at all times. Was thinking carburetor issues but wasn't to sure on difficulty on fixing. Its my daily drive and getting very difficult to drive.

The gasoline smell means the float is not working properly. You don't see a gas spill in the outside of the carburetor because everything is being pulled into the intake manifold.

Adjust the gas level until it is in the middle of the window. If you see gas going out from the adjusting screw, or the problem comes back after the adjustment, its time to change the neddle, needle seat and orings. All of them included in the carburetor kit.
