It is giving a code p0420 and I need to know what it could really be for. Sure I am a single parent and do not have lot money, but I got to get tags on the car and I do not know what to change for sure.

Most commonly this is due to a failed catalytic converter.

Is that the same as the o2 part? And would that be the first part I fix to get my check light off? And is it real expensive to get that other part fixed?

Hi Denise,

No unfortunately, the catalytic converter is more expensive but and you can find one Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049J8WTE/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=2carprcom-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B0049J8WTE&linkId=7310c879f53b538ccf2d64d77169161b

Here is a guide that will help you know what you are in for when changing it out.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/catalytic-converter-replacement

and when you are done you will need to clear the codes

Please let me know if we can help you further.

Best, Ken
