My rear air blows both cold and hot, but my front blows cold or cool. I thought it was the blend door actuator but it switch’s vents just fine.

Hi,

The actuator that controls airflow direction (it switches vents) is called the mode door actuator. The one that controls temperature is the blend air door. Are you sure the correct one was replaced? Also, have you checked to see if both heater core hoses to the front are getting hot? If you haven't. start the engine, turn the heater on high, and then allow the engine to warm up to operating temp. Then, feel both heater core hoses under the hood. Both should be hot. If one is and one isn't, then we know the heater core isn't allowing coolant to flow through it. If both are hot, then it's likely the blend air door.

First, take a look through this link. See if it helps.

Since this vehicle has dual climate control, if both are not working, then both actuators would be bad. So, it's likely a result of low coolant or a plugged heater core. I'm going to provide the directions for the replacement of both the left and right blend door actuators. Take a look through them so we can confirm the correct ones were replaced.

Let me know what you find. Also, confirm if the heater hoses are both hot. That is going to point us in the right direction.

The temperature blend door actuator can be replaced without removing the dash (FYI). You have to remove the radio and glove box, then use an eight millimeter ratchet wrench to remove the three screws holding it on. But keep in mind that you will need to be extremely patient because there is not very much room. Just letting you know in case you take your vehicle somewhere and they want to charge you ten hours or more for labor, because it takes about two hours on average. Here are some pictures that I've illustrated for you so you can have an idea of what's involved.

Someone has had it out it was missing 2 screws and the one it did have in it was broke off and it was completely out of the splines. I so I just took it out and I must have knocked the blend door around, because I’m getting heat now. Could I run it like this for awhile? It has been ran for however long stuck on cold without being in there properly.

Hi,

Yes, you can use it like that. The only thing is it may change without notice and you won't have control. However, since it's winter, you should be okay for awhile.

Take care,
Joe
