My friend and I installed a brand new head and gasket on my 91 yota 4x4. We still have to do my timing chain cover, ( which along with the chain are also new). Well, we spaced the liquid sealer on the front corners of the block, like chiltons `advises`, put on the gasket and torqued the bolts down.
My question, can this last more then temporary like some suggest. Ie. Will it be fine, or did my friend who has done hundreds of head gaskets ( mostly dodge), and I screw up and have to start over with a new gasket.
Can I still use the brand new head bolts that we torqued down but never ran the truck on, ie. Unheated?

I feel it should be fine and as long as everything was done right, it should last. As far as the head bolts, why do you need to remove them?

To get the head up, and the new crushed gasket. Even toyota says this is a short term fix to not have the liquid sealer on the front, corners of the block, so does chiltons.

Well, the book says it in text and in an illustration.I told the toyota service advisor who I believe spoke to a tech, and when he returned to the phone, he said my repair would be short term and eventually leak. The rest of the world does not put sealer on head gaskets, but the 22re needs it, just a dab on the front corners
