I recently bought the car listed above GT. When I have the car set in D, the 1st to 2nd gear shifts fine. When it goes to try and shift from 2nd to 3rd(or overdrive) it stays in 2nd then It neutrals out (just revs high rpm's with no response) so I can only drive up to second gear. I changed the transmission filter and fluid, it wasn't dark and didn't smell burned. Made sure my shift cable was in correct position. I'm left with the stub shaft being the issue or maybe the solenoids? I haven't checked them yet because that would involve me dropping the pan again. Any suggestions?

Good morning,

The only thing that could be the issue is valve body while checking in the car. If it were a solenoid, it would code. Since you listed no codes, I see no proof of a solenoid issue.

I attached possibilities for you below. It would require removal of the transmission. It looks like you will either need a rebuild or replacement with a used one.
