I have replaced rotor and pads on the front axle. All is good until I step on brake pedal. It will grind like rivers going into rotor but it is not. Only when brakes are applied. Have replaced rotors and pads two times in three weeks thinking the new ones were the problem. It was quiet for about two hundred miles each time. All bolts and everything are tight.

What are the exact brand and model brake pads are you putting on the car? Some of the brake pads will make grinding noises after a short time after replacing them.

This is a video on how to replace the brake pads and rotors correctly.

Please run down these guides and report back.

The pads are ceramic Bendix SST. Had AutoZone ceramic before and they never made a sound when changed the first time. The new AutoZone made grinding noises after about 200-250 miles. Changed to Bendix and something after 200-250 miles. The previous pads were from AutoZone with no problem. I replaced them with the same pad. That is when the noise started. So I replaced them with Bender. The rotors came from O'Reillys.

I am going to share with you what I use. I do a lot brake jobs I used to service the Sheriff's department vehicles forestry park ranger etc, vehicles. I used the Centric Possi quiet brake pads they have a red box and a blue box pad. I always used the red box. I still use them on all the brake jobs I do. They are awesome brake pads. Also, if you are replacing the pads you will have to replace the rotor or resurface the rotor. Otherwise you will have noise from the glazed rotor causing the brake pad to chatter.

I have seen people install the brake pads backward so the metal backing is against the rotor. I would remove the tires and recheck the job.

Please let us know what you find.

They are right. What I am wondering if it could be faulty rotors. Since two different sets of pads sounded the same at about two hundred miles.

Just letting you know I change the rotors with federated rotors. I have about three hundred and fifty miles and still no noise. It was the rotors all the time.

Glad to hear that is what I mentioned on my second post when the brakes are changed each time you need to replace the rotors or resurface them or there will be a lot of noise.

The thing was those were new rotors. I could believe brand new ones would make the grinding sound. Glad it is fixed and thanks for the help.
