Twice in the past couple days when I started the truck the low fuel light came on and the gas gage read empty but I'd just put 8 1/2 gallons in. When this happened it also had a loud ticking noise. As I drove after about 3 or 4 minutes the gage started going up showing there was gas and the noise gradually quit as the gas gage registered. Is this the fuel pump or maybe just clogged line?

I suspect you have a bad fuel sending unit in your tank. The fuel sending unit is mounted in the top of the tank, and has both a pump and fuel level sensor. If the fuel pump had trouble the engine would run poorly or not at all. I do not want to guess at what is causing the ticking, but I would check the electrical connections to the sending unit.

The ticking noise is probably the auto locking thing when the truck hits 20, the doors auto lock. Over time it has gotten louder. The gas gauge seems to be a different problem. Its kind of unpredictable on ours. Sometimes its full, but most of the time it is bulimic and never know when it is full. It seems to be a gauge problem and not anything to do with how a pump or anything like that. I
