1994 GMC Safari Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 210000 miles

I first thought maybe the brakes were going out of the van but the squeak is driving me crazy. It happens all the time except when I put on my brakes. It seems like when I turn to the right it stops also. I am not sure what it could be but I am a single mother with 4 kids and cant' afford hundreds in mechanics bills. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me that your brakes pads need to be replaced, take off the wheel and examine them for wear. How much of the pad is left. Also are the rotors worn?

I thought it might be the brakes too but it stops completely when I put my brakes on. It only squeaks when I don't have my brakes on. Would that be caused from the brakes?

Yes it would, they are either to low and he metal tabs *screamers* are letting you know they are low or they are not setting right, when the brakes go on and the sound stops, it is definetely brake related.
