Water will definitly cause misfire or lack of fire alltogether. Before you go buying a bunch of new parts you might try drying out what you have by taking a blow dryer-as in hair- and drying things out with it. I'm not sure how well it will work with what you have but us old timers did this with our points and condenser distributers back when and it worked more often than not. Worth a try, anyway.
