Car wont start

My 1995 oldsmobile delta 88 royale ran out of gas as soon as I started it up. Do you think that by running out of gas that when I put gas into it I stirred up the sedimit in the bottom of the tank, if there was any, and plugged up the fuel filter? Or is something else wrong? 9 chances out of 10 you ruined the fuel pump. It is a bear to change as you have to drop the tank. I expect about $300 bucks Good Luck!
