I have a couple of problems with this truck that I am having problems solving, (1) message center signals service 4wd - this has been occuring off and on for about 2 months. The 4wd components were serviced but I am still getting the msg displayed. Also serveral of the dash light indicators are either not illuminating upon start up or won't function from time to time. Example - upon start up my AC comes on and it won't turn off unless I restart the truck. Could this be a ignition problem or could it be ralated to the msg center? (2) I have a slight shimmy in the truck upon acceleration both in 4wd and 2wd - any suggestions? I do have oversized tires but they are 2 years old and the problem just started. I suspect a faulty u joint but they all seem solid.

Turns out the shimmy was caused by a defective coil. Diagnostics revealed the following error codes:
P0357 IGN COIL
P1380 ABS DEFECT
C0225 WSS OPEN
If anyone can provide feedback on these codes that would be great.

If you have an electronically activated 4wd, it is the switch in the dash. The one with the Auto 4wd, 2WD, 4wd hi and 4wd lo. Especially if you see the lights on the button not working occasionally. I also have a 2000 GMC sierra and replacing the switch and it fixed the problem. I also know several others that had the same problem. The ABS code may be the wheel speed sensor. GM put out a recall for this last October. I had my truck fixed for the recall. However their fix is to clean the old one and spray it with rust prohibitor. My wife was driving the truck later that week and the problem reoccurred after they fixed the recall problem. The anti-lock brakes can engage on dry pavement between 3 and 10 mph which can cause what GM described as a rear end collision. Which is what happend to my wife.

Good Luck.
