1984 Other GMC Models Timming

I have a 1984 GMC Caballero (GMC's version of the Chevy El Camino) and it fails to start. The timming was retarded and it had sat for four years with no care. The fuel is also four years old, I don't know what the problem could be and I don't know where I should start, what should I do.

1. Check to see if it's firing ( if it is then ) 2. Pour a small cap full of gas in the carburetor. It should crank up that this time.

If it doesn't fire check coil distributor, plugs, plug wires ext.
