Battery over charging

I have a 2001 Jimmy. It was running fine and then one day the passenger window would not roll down using the passenger side button, but it would using the driver side button. The next day the my battery indicator was at 18 1/2 and this was a brand new battery, the battery charging light came on and stayed, then started to go out and come right back on. The radio was over heating or at least to was very hot to the touch and all the light on the radio display were lite and there were two very thin red lines streaking across the radio display, they appeared to be some time of wiring or circuits, all the icons connected to the CD player were lit my model only has the tape player. The airbag light was lite up and kept popping on and off. I quit driving the car and left it parked overnight. The next day the battery was completely drained and the jimmy would not turn over. I tried to jump it but the battery look like it was boiling over from the add water holes on top of the battery. I bought a new stronger battery I am still having the same problem.

I checked all of the fuses. Can a bad alternator or generator be the cause of my problems or could it be a short in the wiring somewhere?

The first thing I would suggest is having the alternator output checked, the regulator may have gone bad allowing the over charge. Start there and post back what the output was.

Yes. A voltage regulator with the generator could cause the over voltage. I suspect the window switch is not related but all the other items are related. You need to have a voltage load test done to the alternator. Here is a guide that will help with that:

As for the window switch that, if the driver side works on that window then the switch is most likely the issue.

Please see the attached process on how to replace the generator. Let me know if there are questions. Thanks
