1998 GMC Jimmy Engine shuts down

Hi, my son has a problem with his truck. It will be running fine then the engine just shuts off. It doesn't die but just shuts off. You can start it and it will run for a couple of min then do it again. The service engine light is on and we haven't had the codes checked yet but we will. Do you have any idea what maybe the cause before we get it checked?

Get the vehicle scanned for codes.

Dont matter if I guess now because if im wrong then what good does that do.

Why guess when you can get the answer easilly by getting it scanned.
