Geo Tracker stuck in Park

My Geo Tracker '94 with 50,000 miles is stuck in park.
It start nicely but when I push the backdrive button it is still stuck in park. I took the steering wheel and pushed the backdrive cable to its full range with no help. All fuses are good.

There is a little cover on the left side of the shifter console. Remove the one screw and if you reach inside you'll find a short lever that you move (i think towards the rear) one way or the other and that will manually release the shifter if your key is on and the brake is depressed.
Now you can take it to somebody that can diagnose your trouble.
