I had to replace the relay, so the car starts and runs well. I have been told that the relay malfunctions due to getting hot. If this is true, can it be re-used after it cools off?

The relay gets hot because the fuel pump is going out and it is pulling too much amperage. You should replace the pump and the relay.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

Thanks for your response. I did have the fuel pump replaced a few years ago. Any idea how long it may take for the relay to overheat? Also, how often would this problem occur?

The more resistance the more rapidly it will heat up.
