My car is jerking every time I try and pick up speed. It runs but I noticed a jerk when I try and push the pedal. It's not accelerating like it used to. I put fuel injector cleaner in my tank seems like it helped a little but still the same jerking problem. Engine light will flash when I step on my gas to pick up speed but normally just stays on surprised me this morning it wasn't on but problem still the same?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

When the light flashes, that is indicating an engine misfire. This type of condition can allow unburned fuel to enter the catalytic converter and cause damage, so we need to figure out what is happening.

Take a look through this link:

Now, what I need you to do is have the computer scanned. Here is a video that shows how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner. However, most times a parts store will scan it for you at no charge with hopes to sell parts. Also, some will lend or rent one.

That is the first thing that needs done so I know what codes are stored. At that point, I will have a much better idea what needs done. Please understand, it may simply need spark plugs. However, there are many other things that can cause a misfire such as an engine vacuum leak, timing, fuel pressure, and the list goes on.

Do this and let me know the codes. Also, if you have other questions, feel free to ask.

Take care,
Joe
