My car is a convertible. The very top seat release/tilt/flip handle moves without any tension and no function. So exit from the back seat is not convenient since the lower lever is not easy to reach for the back seat passenger. Even entering the back seats by pulling the lower lever is not convenient since it has no memory function. I assume there will be some rod or cable disconnected. Can anybody tell me how to fix it? Will I need to remove the plastic cover on the top of the seat rest for repair? How do I remove it? Thanks for your help!

Hello,

It sound like the latch itself when bad. Here are diagrams to help you remove the seat and remove the ratcheting seat release. Try to see if there is something stuck inside the mechanism holding the release from engaging.

Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Cheers, Ken

It was about the lower latch when the question was about the upper latch by the headrest.

Here is how to get the seats apart so you can see if the cable is broken or just disconnected. Check out the images (below). Let us know what you find.
