My van had engine light on and has been dying whenever I stop on stop light and I was able to start back. I took my van to "STOP1" and they replaced fuel filter and clean MAF for $330 three days ago. Engine light is not on, but my van still dies whenever I stop or slow down. So, I took van back to "STOP1" yersterday. Today, they called me saying my van need a new FUEL PUMP and it will cost me $530. What shall I do? Thanks, From a sinlgle mom who do not have any clue about automobile other than driving it and pumping gas at the gas station.

The first thing is when the check engine light is on, check the codes, then test the components that caused it. If it runs good while driving, I would suspect a bad idle air control valve before the fuel pump, usually a pump shows trouble while going up hills first. Find out what the code(s) where before putting a fuel pump in it.
