2000 Ford Windstar Front Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles

Could I get an idea of what a reasonable price to replace the catalytic converters (apparently there are two of them) in my 2000 Ford Windstar? I've found the part itself online for anywhere from $40 to $400, and have got quotes between $300 and $1200 to do the replacement.

I'd also appreciate knowing, if you could, what the difference is between the $40 and $400 parts, other than brand-name. Is this something where it actually makes a difference to performance to get the exact manufacturer's part?

Thank you very much for your time,

40 dollar part is an aftermarket universal and will require you to also have custom pipes bent, or buy the pipe kit to install it. The 400 dollar part is likley to be a direct fit converter and only needs to be installed. Either one will work, if you buy the right one for your car, the direct fit is easier to work with.
