Steering problem
1999 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I had my right front tie rod replaced about a month ago. Now it appears to be leaking power steering fluid from the boot of the tie rod. I can also here noise when the steering wheel is turned. It didn't make the noise when I had the right tire jacked up off the ground. Any ideas of what this could be?

IF it's leaking from the boot, the seals in the rack are bad. You'll need a rack. You can try adding lucas power steering additive, but it is a long shot at stopping the leak.

IF the noise is a moaning, it may be cavitation of air in the pump or a line routed in a way that it is restricting fluid flow. Jacking the truck up may have allowed the air to escape or a line to flex. The power steering on these someties requires a special tool that sucks air out of the system.

Thanks, adding the lucas treatment stoped the noise but not the leak yet. I'll try one more bottle, but it looks like I'll need a new rack.

When you do that rack, I would use one from the dealer on this. We have had problems with the aftermarket rebuilts.

I think it says money back gaurantee on the bottle.
