My Windstar runs and drives great until I turn on the fan, a/c, or defrost. As soon as one of those is turned on, the van starts losing power and sputtering as if it was out of gas sometimes shutting off when I come to a stop. It idles fine but when I apply gas it starts acting jumpy again. If I turn off the fan, a/c, or defrost everything returns back to normal but I often find myself with a dead battery in the morning. And just today, after dealing with this issue for the last few weeks, my check engine light came on. I have also been smelling gas strongly when I idle. My fuel pump is 3 yrs old and I have replaced my fuel filter 2 weeks ago. Could I have a bad fuel pump and it only happen when a fan is turned on?

Pull that code first, then we'll figure it out from there.
do this and count the flashes...Count the flashes, a 22 will flash as 2 flashes then a short pause, then 2 flashes, if more than one code is stored, the pause will be longer. The codes will display three times and end with 11 or 111. Write them down and post here. First do this with the ke on engine off, then again with it running.
