Hi Guys!
My "Bird" may be of high mileage, but I keep it mechanically fit. But I'm really bugged by the fact that I'm told that my oil drain plug is leaking & needs replacement, but no mechanic wants to help me.
Is this a matter of just buying a new plug. Or is there something diabolical that I don't know about.
(like - one needs to buy an entire new oil pan, etc.)
I even tried to find a replacement plug online, and struck out!
Please help?

Actually, the drain plug is a standard bolt. However, is the oil pan aluminum? If it is, make sure it isn't cracked. If it is, then the entire pan needs replaced. As far as just replacing the drain plug, there must be something other wrong with it or they would do it. It's just a matter of taking the old one out when changing the oil and replacing it with a new one when it is done draining.

If the pan is stripped (which is common with these) you can have it tapped with new threads and then just use a larger drain plug. Do your best to avoid metal shaving from getting into the pan when this is done.

Let me know if you have other questions.
