Engine Cooling problem
1993 Ford Thunderbird Automatic 180000 miles

I bought a 1993 Ford Thunderbird a couple of weeks ago. A few days ago, it died on me while accelerating. Since then, it has been rough to start it from a stop, but as long as I accelerate gently, it will start. However, after 10 minutes or so the engine overheats, and a white smoke flows out from under the hood. Also, there is a rattling sound that seems to come and go. I replaced the thermostat yesterday, and filled the antifreeze up. Nothing. Any ideas?

If you see white smoke from the exhaust, you have a bad head gasket and that is causing the problem. When coolant gets into the combustion chamber, it burns white.

Check that and let me know what you find.
