1989 Ford Thunderbird diagnostic

I know that in the older GM cars and trucks you can use a metal key to access the problem codes when your check engine light is on. Can you do that with the Fords? No one runs diagnostics on the older cars anymore.

Hook up this way and count the flashes, the codes repeat three times then 11 or 111 flash as the final codes, check with key on engine off, then start and check key on engine running...write all codes down then post and we will take a look at it.
