I just had a 88- T-bird handed down to my kids. The car runs fine, but the check engine light stays on. He said that this has been on forever. Where should I began to look for the problem?

Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer. Most will do it for free. They will come up with a trouble code when they scan it which will identify where the problem is coming from. Let me know what you find and I can better guiide you/
