Loud humming sound

My '99 Taurus, 115k miles, 3.0L makes a loud humming sound from about 35mpg and higher. The tire tread is OK & they are inflated properly. Any ideas?

Not just an Idea. An answer! You have a worn front wheel bearing. Part about 80.00, labor 150? Try driving it and turning the wheel slightly right and left, it should quite down a lttle, usually the left goes first. Have it checked by a good mechanic and they can jack the car and check for play in the wheels. The loose one is the noisy one!
