I have replaced a new alternator about 7-8 months ago and a air conditioning heater about 4 months ago. That's all parts have been changed to my car.

In about last 6 months, one problem keeps happenning. The symptoms are the following:

Most of the time when problems happen, the car is on its idle time, such as stop in front of a red light. The most significant sign is that the dial of the speed-meter moves around 0KM-20KM when I'm fully stopped. When this happens, sometimes the engine will stop but the electric system is on (specially, the light of ABS, GAS). There's no problem to restart the car after the engine stops working. This happens a few times while I'm driving slowly around 20-40KM/hour as well, after the engine stops, all the lights on the meter will be on (ABS, GAS, BREAK and etc), if I put a little pressure on the gas pad, the engine will restart itself.

I've been to mechanics three times regarding to this problem. The first one test-drive a little bit and didn't find any problem.
The second time, the mechanic did a service to the idle control system (cleaning mostly), and the car went well for about two weeks, and the problems happened again.
The third time, the mechanic did a service to most of the electrical system (cleaning mostly), and the car went well for about two weeks, then the problems happened again.

In addition to the information above, the last mechanic thinks that the movement of the dial has nothing to do with the engine stop. However, from my experience, the engine will stop only if the dial starts moving, but not all the times when the dial moves, the engine will stop.
One mechanic also disconnected the sensor of the speed meter, while we were driving, the speed meter won't response to the actual speed, but the dial was still moving when we were in front of a red light.

Since the problem comes and goes, it is hard for me to find the perfect time to go to the mechanics and gurantee them to experience the problems.

Please feel free to ask more questions.

If the speedometer move while the car is stopped it will have a "B" code stored in memory for either the cpeed sensor, or instrument cluster. You need to scan the computer with a Ford compatable tool or at the Ford dealer, to get the code(s). I recommend Ford, because their tool can command the modules to do actions, no one else can do this.

Do you think the engine stop is caused by the speedometer dial movement? Or those two problems are not related to each other.

Ford will charge one hour diagnostic, usually 90.00 and then present you with their findings, and what and how much more to fix it. Yes I think the two are related! If it turns out to be a faulty HEC(cluster), Ford would need to install and program the new module anyway.
